Werewolves Training update

Planning continues to bring back Werewolves training sessions in line with government restrictions and guidance with our first 1 hour sessions planned for Saturday 26th September and Sunday 27th September

Please read the following information to prepare for the changes we have made to allow us to resume training and to pre-register for the sessions.

Werewolves are following the EIHA Covid-19 secure guidance which is currently at Phase 3. This allows a maximum group size on ice of 30 players plus coaches, No restrictions on player movement or social distancing in effect on ice. Off-ice it’s important the procedures below are followed so we can continue to offer these sessions.
UPDATE: Changes to the government restrictions this week for Over 18s has meant a change in the EIHAs Phase 3 plan. Over 18s will be kept in bubbles of 6 and these bubbles will be unable to mix on or off the ice.

Changes to sessions

By now all players should have received full details by email. Due to limits on the numbers we are allowed on the ice, to manage our coaching and distancing off ice, we have had to split the attendance across the two days.

The Werewolves committee is committed to providing a safe environment for our players and families to attend. Whilst we accept these changes to our sessions may make it difficult for some, please help us continue to run our programme during this difficult period by reading thoroughly the information provided and being prepared in advance.

Dates and times

All dates and times are subject to government restrictions and the facility being able to open. At this time these events are proceeding and we will notify by email should this change. There may be little notice of changes given to us so please ensure you check your email before travelling.

Each player will have been given their day (Saturday or Sunday) to attend via email. Players should not attend both days.

Procedure on the day

Please take time to understand the procedure, what it expected of you and to prepare for the session. The information below is subject to change depending on changes to Government or Governing body rules or guidance and you should check back here regularly. Check your email before travelling.

Be aware there will be no refreshments available during our sessions at this time.

Prior to arrival

  • Any player who exhibits or develops symptoms must not attend sessions
  • Please bring your own hand sanitiser and surface wipes
  • Players must bring and use their own water bottle, marked with their name and not share water bottles.
  • Check your kit!
We are making some changes for kit upgrades and returns with the aim maintaining social distancing off-ice.  If you need any kit, please make an appointment by emailing Simon and Janet at kit@werewolvesoflondon.org.uk  no later than midday on the day, and wait for a confirmation from them before coming to the kit cupboard.
We cannot do any kit swaps or kit returns without an appointment.

Please arrive at the rink no more than 5 minutes before the session starts at 4pm (i.e. 3:55pm). Do not congregate in groups whilst waiting and maintain social distancing at all times.
Where possible Players under 18, and players over 18 who need parent/carer support to dress are encouraged to arrive as fully dressed as possible so that they only need to put on skates and helmet etc in the skate return area of the rink. Whilst we understand this is not always practical, it will help with ensuring players spend more time on the ice.

Werewolves ice time will initially be from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.  In order to allow public skaters time to clear the building before we go upstairs please wait in the cafe area (wearing a face covering/mask and observing social distancing from other players/families).

All players/coaches/parents/others must wear a face covering/mask at all times when inside the leisure centre and rink, and observe social distancing 2 metres apart except when on the ice.  For us to remain Covid-19 compliant this needs to be strictly adhered to unless there is a valid reason not to do so.

Entry to the rink

A rink staff member or coach will advise when you may go upstairs to the dressing rooms at about 4pm. As you enter the rink, stop at the checkpoint where a Werewolves volunteer will check registration details and allocate a changing room to the player if it’s needed. If waiting or queuing then remain 2m apart.

Follow the marked one-way system rule at the rink to reach the dressing rooms. There will be a strict limit of 6 players in each of the main dressing rooms and there may only be 20 minutes to get changed.  Priority use of the main dressing rooms will be given to players over 18 who do not need support from a parent/carer. The coach and umpire room changing rooms (3 in total) will be available for one player/parent carer to use at a time.  There may be a need to take turns to use these rooms and surfaces need to be wiped down between use so please come prepared with hand sanitizer and surface wipes to help keep everyone safe.

The showers/toilets inside the dressing rooms may not be used at this time.  Please use the public toilets including the disabled toilet.

Getting on the ice

Players should wait to be led onto the ice by a Coach. Players in changing rooms will have a coach nominated to take them out when they are changed.

Parent/carers should take their place in the seating and remain socially distanced from others not in their party. It is important that parents/carers stay in the rink for the duration of the training session. You will not be able to go in and out of the rink.

Getting off the ice

Players will be led off the ice by a coach. Those using the changing rooms will be taken back to their changing room by the coach. Showers may not be used. Players should ensure masks or face coverings are worn before entering the rink concourse.

Leaving the rink

At the end of practice, players will have 15-20 minutes to get changed whilst maintaining social distancing. Players will then leave the rink, abiding by the rinks’ one-way system. You should follow the arrows on the floor which show the way to the exit door just past the first aid room.  Walk downstairs to Natal Road.
