Werewolves are ‘Sticking it to COVID’

While we await news and plans on the reopening of the rink and return to play, the committee wanted to share some exciting news.

Werewolves launch ‘Sticking it to COVID’ initiative with grant funding from the National Lottery Community fund

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a National Lottery Community Fund grant and welcome their partnership in our ‘Sticking it to COVID initiative to get our players back on the ice safely

How are we sticking it to Covid?

Due to the pandemic and following the published ‘Return to play’ guidance, the club have had to temporarily change how we operate which has presented many new challenges to the club.
Our partnership with the National Lottery Community fund helps get us back onto the ice by meeting the costs of the additional ice time that is necessary to enable us to run sessions in a covid-safe way by dividing into smaller groups and according to age. These vital additional sessions help us maximise the number of players who we can offer training to at the current time. Over 40 players have seen the benefit of this funding before the latest lockdown and temporary closure of the rink in December last year.

The funding has also enabled us to purchase rink dividers. These can be quickly assembled and moved about to divide the ice. We think they will be a valuable tool during our training sessions to help the coaches to teach different skills in separate groups and also to continue to keep everyone safe through social distancing and better managing the concentration of players in the separated sections of the ice.

The rink dividers have now been delivered during the lockdown and we are looking forward to get back on the ice and make use of them. Look out for a future update showing them in use. Our thanks also to GLL/Better for their support and helping us find storage for them.

We also expect to purchase some replacement kit to replace items that are worn or safer to replace.

Whats next for the initiative?

Following the successful and ongoing roll-out of vaccinations we can now see light at the end of the tunnel! The Werewolves committee will make every effort to organise additional training sessions from when the rink re-opens and guidance allows through to the summer months to help make up for cancelled sessions when the rink was closed.

We hope to see our players back soon to continue ‘Sticking it to COVID’
