Young, Autistic & Stagestruck – Channel 4
(links to 4 on demand service may not work in your country or may expire)
In 2009, the Lyric Hammersmith worked in partnership with the television production company Love Productions to support a team of children and young people with autistic spectrum disorders to devise, produce and perform an original piece of theatre. The participants’ lives, devising process and the final performance were captured by Love Productions for a four part documentary series broadcast on Channel 4 in April 2010.
The documentary, follows a cast of people with autism, aged between 11 and 25 years old, their families and professionals, as they devise and stage a brand new show, to be performed in London’s West End in January 2010.
Channel 4 believe that this series can raise awareness and understanding of ASDs in an intelligent and accessible way. The project will enrich and celebrate the unique skills and talents of people with autism; it will be positive and life-affirming and we hope it will show what it is like to live with this complex condition.
