Training dates

Training sessions 2020/2021

The Werewolves ice hockey season generally falls between September and the end of May. We currently have ice booked until the end of June.

Due to the current pandemic, the committee has been working hard to get Werewolves back on the ice. There have needed to be some changes whilst restrictions are in place and to remain Covid safe.  Players have been split into two groups of Under 18s and Over 18s to manage numbers and ensure safety. Players/Parent/Carers will have been notified of the group they are in.

Many thanks to you all for your support in following our Covid- safe guidance and helping to keep everyone as safe.  Your flexibility and good humour in adapting to ever changing circumstances is greatly appreciated.  We have thus far been able to succeed with your support in adapting our sessions to comply with guidance from HMG, the English Ice Hockey Association, and GLL/Better/Rink management.

The following dates are for training sessions that are 1 hour in duration. Please pre-register here if you intend on attending. This will speed up entry and ensure you can get on the ice quicker. Pre-registration

We are required to maintain contact details for everyone who attends our sessions and to limit numbers. These details may be passed to the NHS Test and Trace service if Werewolves are contacted by them. We require players and key contacts attending to pre-register for the sessions so that we may know how many people we are expecting and to ensure we can get everyone in and on the ice in the shortest period of time. Please use the button below to pre-register for a session prior to the session date.

Procedure on the day

Please take time to understand the procedure, what it expected of you and to prepare for the session. The information below is subject to change depending on changes to Government or Governing body rules or guidance and you should check back here regularly. Check your email before travelling.

Be aware there will be no refreshments available during our sessions at this time.

Prior to arrival

  • Any player who exhibits or develops symptoms must not attend sessions
  • Please bring your own hand sanitiser and surface wipes
  • Players must bring and use their own water bottle, marked with their name and not share water bottles.
  • Check your kit!
We are making some changes for kit upgrades and returns with the aim maintaining social distancing off-ice.  If you need any kit, please make an appointment by emailing Simon and Janet at kit@werewolvesoflondon.org.uk  no later than midday on the day, and wait for a confirmation from them before coming to the kit cupboard.
We cannot do any kit swaps or kit returns without an appointment.

Arriving

  • Players who are under 18 should arrive at the rink at 3:55pm
  • Players who are over 18 should arrive at 4.55pm

Please do not congregate in groups whilst waiting and maintain social distancing at all times.

Where possible Players under 18, and players over 18 who need parent/carer support to dress, are encouraged to arrive as fully dressed as possible so that they only need to put on skates and helmet etc in the skate return area of the rink. Whilst we understand this is not always practical, it will help with ensuring players spend more time on the ice.

In order to allow public skaters time to clear the building before we go upstairs, under 18 players please wait in the cafe area (wearing a face covering/mask and observing social distancing from other players/families).
Over 18 players arriving at 4.55pm do not need to wait in the cafe area and may go straight upstairs to check in with a werewolves volunteer.

All players/coaches/parents/others must wear a face covering/mask at all times when inside the leisure centre and rink, and observe social distancing 2 metres apart except when on the ice.  For us to remain Covid-19 compliant this needs to be strictly adhered to unless there is a valid reason not to do so.

Entry to the rink

On the day of training, we need to wait in the cafe area (wearing a face covering/mask and observing social distancing of 2 metres from other players/families) until about 4pm.   A Werewolves volunteer will advise when you may go upstairs and which specific dressing room to use.  Please do not enter a dressing room until one has been specifically allocated to you – this enables us to keep a record of who shared a dressing room and to keep numbers down to a maximum of 6.   (From 29 May there may be a slight delay until about 4:15 for players to access the skate return area to change depending on how long it takes for public skaters to leave.

Changing

Follow the marked one-way system rule at the rink to reach the dressing rooms. There will be a strict limit of 6 players in each of the main dressing rooms and there may only be 20 minutes to get changed.  Priority use of the main dressing rooms will be given to players over 18 who do not need support from a parent/carer. The coach and umpire room changing rooms (3 in total) will be available for one player/parent carer to use at a time.  There may be a need to take turns to use these rooms and surfaces need to be wiped down between use so please come prepared with hand sanitizer and surface wipes to help keep everyone safe.

Toilets

The showers/toilets inside the dressing rooms may not be used at this time.  Please use the public toilets including the disabled toilet.

Getting on the ice

Players should wait to be led onto the ice by a Coach. Players in changing rooms will have a coach nominated to take them out when they are changed.

Parent/carers should take their place in the seating and remain socially distanced from others not in their party. It is important that parents/carers stay in the rink for the duration of the training session. You will not be able to go in and out of the rink.

Getting off the ice

Players will be led off the ice by a coach. Those using the changing rooms will be taken back to their changing room by the coach. Showers may not be used. Players should ensure masks or face coverings are worn before entering the rink concourse.

Leaving the rink

At the end of practice, players will have 15-20 minutes to get changed whilst maintaining social distancing. Players will then leave the rink, abiding by the rinks’ one-way system. You should follow the arrows on the floor which show the way to the exit door just past the first aid room.  Walk downstairs to Natal Road.

Non-Returning players

If any players are not planning to return this season please book an appointment with Simon and Janet at kit@werewolvesoflondon.org.uk to book an appointment to return kit
